How to Buy Cheap Sports Tickets

Friday, August 29th, 2008

So, you are looking for cheap sports tickets and don’t want to pay too much or get ripped off?

These days when it comes to sports tickets it all comes down to Economics 101 a.k.a. “the law of supply and demand”.  The greater the demand of a sporting event, the harder it will be to get in the door for a low price, but it is not impossible.  The closer that it gets to gametime, the price of the ticket becomes less valuable as the ticket may become potentially worthless.

Here are some tips to get the cheapest sports tickets possible:

1.  Check Stubhub, TicketsNow and other ticket exchange sites frequently as prices change often.

2. Wait until a few days or hours before the event you have time on your side.  Check Stubhub, eBay, Craigslist for good deals

3.  Go to or call the sports venue box office the morning of the event, a lot of time there are still tickets at the box office for face value.

4. Check Ticketmaster in the days before the event.  As groups of vips and players wives decide not to go, those tickets are released to the general public in an unannounced ”ticket drop”

5.  Wait until the game starts, shop around for the best price, see if the ticket scalper will walk into the event with you and you will pay him when safely inside the sports venue.

6. If the sports event is outside and the weather forecast calls for rain or bad weather the market price of the sports ticket usually goes down.

7. Generally, weeknight games are usually priced less than games on the weekend.

CHEAP SPORTS TICKETS MAY DISAPPEAR

Monday, July 21st, 2008

If you think tickets to sporting events and concerts are expensive today, wait until you see how much more the tickets will skyrocket in price over the next few years.  Cheap sports tickets may become a thing of the past and the average fan may get shut out.

Sports leagues have made partnership deals with Stubhub and Ticketmaster and have shared ticket pricing data with the leagues.   Pro sports teams now know what prices fans are willing to pay for any particular seat in the stadium.

Teams now sell PSLs or “Personal Seat Licenses” for thousands of dollars which will only allow the purchaser of the PSL access to purchase tickets for seats he has purchased the license to.   It all adds up to the average fan getting priced out of the stadium.

In order to avoid getting ripped off when buying tickets, ticket purchasers need to be as knowledgeable as possible.   Sign up for presales.  Call your favorite team and negotiate season ticket package prices.  Sad to say, the more your team loses, the less demand there will be for tickets, but at least you will pay a lot less.

AAA Sports Tickets blog will share sporting event ticket infomation so fans can make smart purchases from as close to the source as possible.
